POLICE VIOLENCE – George Floyd, a black man in his forties, died of suffocation from brutal tackle to the ground by four police officers for a minor crime. The case, which led to the dismissal of the four members of the security forces involved on Tuesday, is fueling the subject of police violence and racism in the American police.
“Excessive and inhuman” use of force. These are the words of the victim’s family to characterize this drama. Monday evening, George Floyd was tackled to the ground by a Minneapolis police officer and immobilized with the help of a knee on the throat. The scene was filmed by a passerby on Facebook Live. We see the quarantine struggling for survival and above all repeating several times: “I can’t breathe”. After a few minutes, the black man stops in front of the police officer’s grip. A witness then alarmed: “He is no longer breathing, he is no longer moving, take his pulse”. An ambulance will arrive a few moments later, too late. George Floyd died soon after. A police spokesman said the man appeared to be drugged or intoxicated and that only after handcuffing him did the police “realize that the suspect was in medical distress”.
